Dibond is a rigid, durable aluminum composite material consisting of two thin sheets of .012-inch thick aluminum bonded to a solid polyethylene plastic core. Dibond signs are ideal because they are approximately half the weight of raw aluminum and are the flattest panel on the market, as well as a superior surface for direct digital printing & mounting graphics.

Our signs provide excellent durability in outdoor applications and won’t bow or warp. It comes in 12 standard colors, including six metallic shades and can be custom printed to any color.  We stock sheet sizes ranging from 48-by-96 inches to 60-by-120-inches and in thicknesses ranging from 2 mm to 4 mm.

Interested in creating custom signs from this lightweight and durable material? The right size will depend on your vision. We cut Dibond signage under 5′ x 10′ from a single seamless sheet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a larger design. We’ll merely combine multiple panels for your ideal design.

Common sizes include:

  • 10″ x 12″
  • 12″ x 18″
  • 18″ x 24″
  • 24″ x 36″
  • 48″ x 96″

Dibond comes in two thicknesses:

  • 1/8″- This thickness is ideal for smaller signage and designs. It’s lightweight, strong with minimal flexibility.
  • 1/4″- You’ll want additional thickness for larger signs. That is especially true when we incorporate multiple aluminum sign panels into the design.

You might think that because Dibond is made with metal, it doesn’t have color options. This couldn’t be farther from the truth! The material actually comes from the factory with white surfacing, make it possible for full-color printing. From mirrored chrome and gold, brushed silver and gold, laminate and an array of colors, your finish options are endless.

Resistance to the Elements

DiBond is:

  • Rustproof
  • Waterproof
  • Rot proof
  • Chemically resistant
  • Perfect for outdoor use anywhere

How easy is it to print on?

Sign printing on this material provides richly saturated images. If you decide to go with color, we print with waterproof UV resistant inks. It remains impervious to all environments indoors & outdoors. That is the most popular material for custom outdoor signs.

Can I get custom shapes?

We have an in-house CNC router that can cut sheets to any shape, eliminating the pain of getting custom metal signs cut. Combine it with the moisture & heat resistance and weatherproof, & you have one strong sign. That makes for great exterior signs. It also works well indoors. It’s printable on both sides, too!

How long has it been around?

Dibond® has been the industry’s leading aluminum composite material for over 15 years.

Is it flammable?

One of the fantastic things about Dibond is that its self-extinguishing. it has a Class 1 or Class A fire rating (ASTM E-84)

Where should I use DiBond sign options?

The aluminum composite material (ACM) is incredibly versatile for most sign designs. You’ll use it in a variety of settings, such as tradeshow exhibits, point of purchase displays, interior and exterior signage, real estate signs and more.

Where can I find more information?

Are you interested in learning even more about this material? Here’s the data from the manufacturer 3A Composites, a Dibond Sign Color Chart and a quick glance Dibond Signs Datasheet.

Can I use hot mounting techniques?

Cold mounting techniques are the only kind recommended for this substrate when fabricating. We also die cut, use the router, employ vinyl as well as digital printing.

What if I need drill holes in my sign?

We are happy to offer custom hole placement in any design. We also create custom shapes and can round the top corners and bottom corners as needed.

Are Alumalite and DiBond the same thing?

No. Alumalite is a cheaper substrate made with two sheets of aluminum sandwiching a corrugated plastic interior. In contrast, Dibond features a solid plastic core, which increases the panel strength and overall life span of the sign. DiBond is genuinely the authority of durable signage, ranking as #4 strongest sign substrate in the world. Dibond sign material is guaranteed to withstand all manner of weather, pressure, and elements with ease!

How do I install my sign?

You can install your sign in a variety of ways- the lightweight Dibond print can hang from ceilings, on a wall, posts or even placed in stands or frames. We add holes to your design with our CNC router. Then, you can use rope, string or bungees to hang your signs from the ceiling, screw it onto wood or concrete with washers or use nuts and bolts to mount on posts.

How can I clean my sign?

  • Clean signs with soap and water using a non-abrasive cloth
  • To keep the signs from denting or warping, do not install them where heavy winds could blow them into other objects
  • DO NOT use rubbing alcohol or any other chemicals to clean your signs.

What is Dibond?

We get the question all the time, what is Dibond? It is a sign material that takes two sheets of aluminum and sandwiches a plastic core in between them. It creates a terrific indoor & outdoor sign panel, great for any use. If you want to order these signs online, we will double check all artwork to make sure your prints are perfect!

Why are custom Dibond signs suitable for use as outdoor signs?

Dibond panels are our favorite material for custom outdoor signs because they are incredibly durable. It is less expensive to produce than aluminum or metal sheets and lightweight. The substrate can cost under half the price of almost any other aluminum signs.

How do you print Aluminum Dibond sheeting?

The old way to produce signs is to use precut aluminum sign blanks. Use vinyl cutters to make big stickers you apply to the aluminum signage sign panel. We can provide these using a digital or screen printing process.  It is a fast & less expensive way to produce outdoor signage. Over the previous five years, UV digital printing flatbed technology has allowed us to print artwork directly to the aluminum within 5 minutes per sheet. We can cut the sheets to any three-dimensional shapes.

How do you cut Dibond?

Cutting Dibond is reasonably straightforward. Custom cutting requires taking 4×8 sheets & putting them on our 5×10 oversized router. The plastic core in the material makes cutting the sign material simple. A 4×8 sheet with a 1/4″ thickness can be cut down to custom aluminum signs within 10 minutes.

How long does Dibond aluminum stay fit?

These should stay fit for ten years. The photo print may not remain healthy for a long time depending on the direct sunlight your sign material gets. They should not fade for a minimum of three years.

What is the largest size that I can order a Dibond sheet?

We stock and can ship a sheet as large as 10×5 feet. The standard size of a sheet is 4×8. If you need custom sized signs, just let us know the sheet size you need!

Dibond vs. Diabond vs. Diebond vs. Di Bond

Diabond, Dia Bond, Diebond, Die Bond are all incorrect spellings.

What are the ranges of Dibond pricing?

Pricing can vary depending on the finish, size, print, and thickness. The least expensive pricing is .040 thickness and a white finish. The highest priced is gold Dibond. The most costly width is 3mm. They are available up to .5″ thicknesses. At the time of evaluating prices, make sure it is not a cheap knock-off material. If you want to reduce costs, we do have a few much less expensive similar products.

How do I save Dibond artwork?

You should save the artwork for your Dibond signs as a .pdf at 300 dpi. We recommend using Adobe Photoshop for all sign printers. If you wish to print your signs with a photo, the picture should be a high resolution to make the Dibond board prints correctly. If you want to custom cut Dibond, please include the die cut line on a separate layer in the color pink.

Are there any Dibond alternatives?

Dibond is the name of a company; the product is technically an aluminum composite panel. There are several other companies out there that produce aluminum composite panels for much less expensive. Other brands can produce aluminum composite for less for the reason it uses a low-grade aluminum. We recommend immersive engineering steel sheets for short-term sign applications. We recommend using the official product for most projects.

What are the best finishes for Dibond sheets?

Our favorite is the brushed aluminum sheets and brushed aluminum sheeting. That is a great way to produce modern-looking metal signs for your office or business. To print on Dibond, we recommend white aluminum sheeting. The color will pop and not get washed out in the brushed aluminum Dibond.

What if I want Dibond sign blanks?

If you want blanks or, we can help you with that. Many clients order blank metal sheets to apply graphics. Personalized garden signs and custom property signs are a great example of blank metal sign applications.
